Fun & Fellowship For All

Are you the next Phil Mickelson?  Do you live to run away with the tournament by 10 strokes?  Or, do you gauge your success on the course by how many beverages are left in the cooler at the end of the day??

Whether the Double Vigil Golf Classic is your first time on a course without windmills, or you regularly tee it up each week, this tournament is guaranteed to be filled with Fun & Fellowship for All.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE

Each team at registration will be asked to decide between competing in the Championship Flight or the Fellowship Flights.  The winner of the Championship Flight will be the official tournament champion. Your team is only eligible to win the Wadford Cup by choosing to compete in the Championship Flight.  Every team not electing to compete in the Championship Flight will be randomly assigned to one of two Fellowship Flights.

Scoring for the tournament is computed by a gross best-ball stroke-play; golfers of similar skill levels are able to compete against one another for victory within their flight. So the highly skilled and competitive teams play against one another in the Championship Flight, while the recreational golfers are grouped in several different flights.

Option 1: "Championship Flight"
The PRIZE:

  • 1st Place Team will be named the Tournament Champions
  • Names of Tournament Champions will be forever engraved on the Wadford Cup.
  • 1st Place Team walks away with Prize Money

The CATCH:

  • It's All-or-Nothing: only one team will win the Wadford Cup and Prize money.
  • There is no prize for 2nd or 3rd place in the Championship Flight

Option 2: "Fellowship Flights"
The PRIZE:

  • 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Teams in each of the Fellowship Flights will walk away with Prize Money

The CATCH:

  • Your team is not eligible to win the Wadford Cup
  • Teams are randomly assigned to the Fellowship Flights - you don't know who you are competing against.

THE FORMAT

Teams will play a 4-person Best-Ball Scramble.

Each player in a team tees off at the start of every hole and the team decides which shot was best. Other players then play their second shot within one club length from the chosen position, maintaining the same lie conditions (i.e. in the fairway, in the rough, in a bunker). On the green the balls are placed within one putter head of the ball marker. The procedure is repeated until the hole is finished.

This format keeps the game moving and gives less-experienced players a chance at winning. On a 4-player team, for the each nine holes, each player's tee-off drive must be used twice. That means the most drives that one person can utilize is three per nine holes.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Arrive as early as 10:00am to warm up on the putting, chipping greens or driving range. Lunch will be served starting at 11:00am and all players must be checked-in by 11:30am. There will be a group photo at 11:45 outside the clubhouse and we will tee off at 12:00pm.

A COURSE RULE: PLAYERS MAY NOT SHARE SETS OF CLUBS. If you do not personally own a set of golf clubs, the course has several sets available for rent - $25-45 per set. To reserve a set please call the course ahead of time at (602) 431-6480 as there are a limited number of sets the course can provide.

Refreshment carts will be driving around the course throughout the game.

Mulligans and Paint Sticks are available for purchase and will not only help improve your game, but the proceeds will help increase the overall contribution given by the DVGC Legacy Fund.

Customer Service

Online Registration Support

Users of this website experiencing difficulties completing online registrations or orders should contact us directly using the Contact Us page.

Event Registration Fee Refunds

In most cases, refunds for event registration fees are only granted under extreme circumstances (i.e., hospitalization, family member death, etc.). Once an event registration has been made, it is assumed that the registrant will attend the event. Event registrations serve as a form of RSVP, helping the organization to plan for the event. Revenue collected from pre-registration fees is used months prior to the event to finance operations and purchases (i.e., program material, site contract fees, and other unavoidable fixed costs) necessary to have a successful event.

If there is an extreme case in which a registrant may experience undue financial burden after paying for an event registration fee and is unable to attend, the registrant should contact us.

Donation Refunds

Online donations are considered final sale and will not be refunded under any circumstance.

Physical Goods and Other Partial Refunds

In cases where physical goods are ordered, such as merchandise, you must follow the same procedure as outlined above.  Please contact us and we will determine the amount and type of refund to be processed. In the event that physical goods and event registration fees are purchased in the same card transaction, a partial refund may be granted if necessary. Shipping charges, if included, may not be refunded if the purchased items have already shipped. The cardholder is responsible for returning any goods that are refunded.

Disputes

Cardholders always have the right to file a claim with their card issuer about any charges appearing on their statement, but the cardholder should first make every effort to try to have a refund processed by the merchant directly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I don't really golf, so why would I want to go?
A: It's not about the golf! You'll have a great time, in good company. Truth is, many of the folks at this tournament come for the experience of spending time with friends who share a common interest of supporting the betterment of Scouting. For some, it may even be their first full game of golf. It's a very low pressure game, and we have lots of ways to help make sure everyone will have a fun time, regardless of experience. If you don't call yourself a golfer currently, you might decide you like it by the end of the DVGC! Read more about our game plan.

Q: I don't own any golf clubs, or I don't want to check a bag to bring them on the plane, so I can't come, right?
A: The golf course has a limited number of clubs available for rental for $15.00. If you would like to rent a set for the tournament please call the course ProShop at (480) 893-9772 in advance to reserve your set. We also know several folks in the Phoenix area with multiple sets who are willing to lend theirs to you. Don't sweat it; just bring yourself, ready to have a great time.

Q: I really can't make it this year, is there a way I can just donate to the cause?
A: You can give through our website on the Donate page, and we will forward your contribution directly to the Boy Scouts of America after the tournament. Give using your credit card and earn miles/points!

Q: Do I have to be a member of the Boy Scouts and/or Order of the Arrow?
A: No, in fact, we'd love for you to bring friends or your spouse. We welcome anyone who wishes to contribute to the cause. Bring a whole team!

Q: It's a lot of money just to play a round of golf, isn't it?
A: Yes and no. We're trying to make it as affordable as possible for you and hope to encourage some younger golfers to attend. If you're not from the Phoenix area, let us know and we'll try to help you out with overnight accommodations. And if you are able to contribute more $$ to the cause to sponsor additional golfers, we welcome you to do so.

Q: Where does all the money go?
A: The event raises money for the DVGC Legacy Fund: Supporting Our Legacy in Scouting In our 13 year history we have provided over $13,000 in financial contributions to the Maury Clancy American Indian Campership Fund, and support the Endowment of the Order of the Arrow and other Scouting Scholarship funds such as the OATC Scholarship Fund (part of the 2014 Philmont Staff Association Capital Campaign). Your registration and additional contributions covers 18-holes of golf, cart fee, practice balls for warm-up, player gift, tournament awards, lunch, an evening dinner party, and a donation to the fund.

Q: What else is there to do in the area? Should I stay for the whole weekend?
A: The greater Phoenix/Scottsdale/Tempe area has a lot to offer. Check our website for links to the Visitors Bureau websites, or contact us and we'll hook you up with some local recommendations. If there are enough folks who want to, we might be able to organize some group activities throughout the weekend.

Q: Why is it on a Friday and not a Saturday instead?
A: The DVGC is held the day before the Western Region OA Committee meeting, which is all day Saturday. Many folks who attend that committee meeting contribute to and/or participate in the DVGC.

Q: Will the DVGC ever be held outside Phoenix?
A: For 10 years the DVGC has been held in Phoenix, largely because the event has traditionally been coupled with an after-golf social and dinner event hosted by a member of the National Committee nearby. While this could change in the future, we do not have immediate plans to change the location.
